If you have been diagnosed with prediabetes, or believe you may be at risk for developing the disease, the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program can help you develop a healthier lifestyle and work with you to reduce the risks this condition can pose to your health.

About the program

Based on effective efforts researched by the National Institutes of Health, the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program will help you learn about and adopt the healthy eating and physical activity habits that have been proven to reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Through the program you will receive support and encouragement from both a trained lifestyle coach and fellow classmates as you develop a plan for improving and maintaining your overall well-being.

Program goals

Reduce your diabetes risk through the YMCA’s diabetes prevention program by cutting your type 2 diabetes risk in half and getting the tools you need for developing a healthier lifestyle.

If you are at risk of developing type 2 diabetes, the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program can help you adopt and maintain healthy lifestyles that will help you reduce your chances of developing diabetes. The program is based on research funded by the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention which showed that by eating healthier, increasing physical activity and losing a small amount of weight, a person with prediabetes can prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes by 58 percent.

• Reduce your body weight by 7 percent
• Increase physical activity by 150 min/week
